The Food Ethics Council (FEC) teamed up with the Food and Drink Innovation Network to run a one day seminar on Food Ethics on 16th April 2008.
The meeting was chaired by Helen Browning OBE, chair of the FEC. Ed Garner from TNS Worldpanel set the scene with the latest analysis of market potential and trends.
Dragon Brands presented insights from some specially commissioned consumer research.
The FEC presented a primer on ethics and a toolkit for better business decisions.
Julia Hailes MBE – author of The New Green Consumer Guide – gave a briefing on key issues like water scarcity.
Geoff Tansey – author of The Future Control of Food – painted the big picture of the ethical challenges to the food sector’s licence to operate.
Companies then looked at some case studies, with PepsiCo, M&S, Unilever and the Ethical Trading Initiative discussing the ethics of some of their business decisions.
