Food waste turns stomachs

As families sit down to indulge in some Christmas Day dinner excess, Deutsche Welle Magazine looks in depth at food waste and consumerism. The article asks why we throw away so much food, and what can be done about it.

Deutsche Welle asked the Food Ethics Council how to tackle the problem of food waste. We answered that until we confront the causes of the west's throwaway society, throwing away less food won’t make our lifestyles more sustainable. Reducing food waste will only make a difference if it goes hand in hand with concerted international efforts to tackle poverty and hunger and economic changes to promote prosperity without growth.
