World Food Day event - save the date
We will hold a debate and reception on 16th October to mark World Food Day (WFD). The focus will be on food distribution and social justice, looking at UK concerns over 'food miles' in the context of global hunger and this year's WFD themes of climate change and bionergy. The event will celebrate 10 years since the Food Ethics Council was founded.

Labelling and accreditation systems such as Fairtrade have played a central part in raising the profile of ethical issues in food and farming. Yet debate rages over their future role. Moves towards carbon footprinting and labels, and interest in treating water the same way, have made this a particularly urgent issue.

Water scarcity will be one of the sharpest environmental, social and economic challenges of coming decades, and the food sector will feel this keenly. The Caroline Walker Trust, best known for setting expert nutritional guidelines for vulnerable groups, has recognised the Food Ethics Council with a special award.

December 13 2006Workers' rights in the food sector - the Food Ethics magazine reception
Chris Kaufman from T&G, the largest food workers' union in the UK, will speak at a reception in London on 6th December to mark the first birthday the Bulletin of the Food Ethics Council and the launch of the magazine's second year under the title Food Ethics.
