What information do you collect about me?

For all users of our websites:

  • When visiting our website, we will collect information about your device, your IP address, geographical location, your browser type, how you navigated to us (e.g. through a search engine). This information may be collected by a third-party analytics service or by third parties using cookies, which are active on our website. You can read our full Cookies Policy here.
  • If you post a comment on our blog pages, powered by Disqus, cookies will be set to manage functionality (more information here).
  • If you follow us on any social media account (eg: Instagram, LinkedIn), we have access to your public information, in accordance with the platform’s own Privacy Policy.
  • If you register to our mailing list, we collect your name, surname, email address and affiliated organisation. We don’t share any of these with third parties.
  • If you contact us, we will collect any information contained in any correspondence.

How do you use my data?

We will use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To provide you with information that you have requested from us;
  • To enable you to attend [online and/ or in person] events or workshops we may be hosting;
  • If you have signed up to our Newsletters, or are a member of our Business Forum, we will your personal data to contact you as part of the service you signed-up to; and/or
  • To evaluate your application if you apply for a role with us.

Our processing of your personal data for the above purposes is based on our legitimate interest in running our business efficiently and effectively. Processing may also be necessary for the performance of a contract with you, or in order to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract with you if you apply for a role with us.

Who do you share my information with?

We use the Google Analytics service in order to enable us to learn more about how our site is used, and to help us improve the site. Google does not associate this IP address with any other Google service, and information about specific IP addresses is not available to The Food Ethics Council. We do not use Google Analytics Advertising features and you will not receive any personalised advertising on our website.

Google Analytics sets cookies. There is more information on how these cookies are used on our cookies page but we do not require you to allow cookies to be set to navigate our website, and we won’t nag you if they are turned off.

The Food Ethics Council holds all personal data on a secure database, and does not allow access to our mailing lists nor will we pass on personal information to third parties unless required by law.

How do you look after my information and how long do you keep it for?

We do not retain server logs for this website, however you should be aware that information about your use of this website (including your IP address) may be retained by your ISP (Internet Service Provider), the hosting provider and any third party that has access to your internet traffic.

Any personal data that you provide to us, such as your name and email address, will be stored in accordance with our record retention policy, and deleted 4 years after our last contact with you.

Will you process my data outside the UK?

Information collected by Google Analytics will be processed and stored outside the UK. Information about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Our Mailing Lists

The Food Ethics Council currently uses an external mailing list provider, MailChimp, to manage our email based newsletter. We provide an unsubscribe link in all email messages that we send out and users can unsubscribe at any time using this link.

Mailchimp is notified as a “data controller” in respect of the personal data about its UK Members, whom it collects personal data from in accordance with its Privacy Policy, but not in respect of personal data about people on its members’ Distribution Lists (where it acts as a “data processor”). Data subjects’ rights

The UK GDPR grants individuals a number of rights, including access to and rectification or erasure of your personal data, restriction of processing concerning your personal data and to object to processing as well as the right to data portability.

Where our processing of your personal data is based on your consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time.
