The Food Ethics Council is committed to bringing in the experiences of a genuinely diverse range of organisations to this project.

The Food and Farming community is invited to participate in the Food Issues Census through three key stages:

  1. Listening Phase: Helping shape the questions we ask in the census.
  2. Survey Participation: Responding to survey questions and case study requests as part of the census.
  3. Dissemination: Learning about and using the census findings.

We recognise that diverse communities, from Black and People of Colour (BPOC) to working class communities, LGBTQIA+ folks, neurodivergent people and people with disabilities are vastly under-represented in the food, farming and environment sectors.

Our goal is to broaden engagement in the Food Issues Census by actively including, welcoming, and amplifying voices that have been previously excluded.

To address these barriers, we have established the Food Issues Census Inclusion Fund. The fund aims to provide financial and language support to grassroots organisations and people representing those organisations who may not otherwise be able to engage in the process, including those who are non-native English speakers.

The fund offers payments of up to £250 to support engagement across all three stages. Applicants can request an amount based on the time they plan to dedicate.

The Inclusion Fund will:

  • Provide payment for their time to those representing civil society organisations that may not otherwise be able to engage in the Food Issues Census process, acknowledging their expertise.
  • Offer translation support, covering translation costs, to enable communication in languages other than English.

We are constantly learning about our community and the challenges organisations – and the people working in organisations – may face when participating in initiatives like this. If there are barriers that this fund does not address, we would love to hear from you and to work on ways to overcome them.

Eligibility: Applicants for the Inclusion Fund that want to engage in the Food Issues Census must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Grassroots organisations with an annual income of less than £100,000
  • Organisations working at the intersection of food, farming, and underrepresented or minority communities
  • Individuals representing civil society organisations whose primary language is not English

If demand exceeds available resources, priority will be given to applicants from historically underrepresented groups, including individuals in civil society organisations that are aged 18-25, people of colour, experiencing unemployment or low-waged work, with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ and those working on issues that disproportionately affect historically underrepresented groups.

Please note that, due to budget limitations, not all applicants may be successful in receiving funding. We will contact applicants within two weeks of receiving their form to confirm eligibility and process funding upon completion of the survey.
