Roots and Routes: ‘When policies align’ ONLINE workshop

Online Food Ethics Council ‘Roots and Routes’ workshop: exploring fairer routes forward for joined-up, resilient UK food systems

Please join part two of our policy coherence ‘roots and routes’ session – a 90-minute online workshop exploring fairer routes forward to get greater coherence in UK food system policymaking. This follows on from our 16th September 2026 webinar diagnosing root causes of policy incoherence, entitled ‘when policies collide‘. Participants are encouraged to attend the webinar and the workshop where possible, but if not, then it’s still possible to only join one (as we’ll share a recap).

Our expert speaker line-up will include:

  • Corinna Hawkes, Director, Division of Agrifood Systems and Food Safety, FAO
  • Other speakers to be announced shortly

The workshop will be chaired by a member of the Food Ethics Council.

In the session, we will explore:

  1. examples of ‘policies aligning’, where government is more joined up in relation to policymaking – bringing in examples from the UK and internationally
  2. how we can/ should have greater coherence in policymaking on food systems? What are fairer routes, or pathways, forward?

We will focus primarily on national government policymaking – across the four nations of the UK – but will also consider policymaking at other levels where relevant.

After hearing from expert speakers, there will be opportunity to explore possible routes forward with other participants in breakout groups.
