Universal & Undeniable: Enshrining the right to food in policy and practice

Curious about how your work intersects with calls to enshrine the right to food, and how we can we make collective progress towards this?

Join us and Nourish Scotland as we spotlight and untangle mixed messages around the right to food, and highlight the universality principle that is often lacking in narratives and campaigns.

There is a clear and compelling need for the right to food to be enshrined in legislation – but should this be at a UK level, or is it for the devolved administrations to act? Scotland is already leading the way with the Good Food Nation Act passed in 2022. With excellent progress in Wales, such as the Well-being of Future Generations Act and universal free school meals at primary level, and Northern Ireland centring the right to food in its Food Strategy Framework, we are not starting from zero.

Together we’ll explore what is possible when we embed the right to food in how we progress food system transformation. What can we do collectively that makes the case for legislative intervention inarguable, and what are the stepping stones that bring a true right to food closer? We also want to hear from you about how the right to food is showing up in your work, or where it isn’t, and should be.
