Exchanging lessons on food sustainability with the Netherlands
The Netherlands ranked highly in the Food Sustainability Index, which ranked countries on a range of measures – amongst sustainable agriculture, tackling nutritional challenges and food loss & waste. This compares favourably with the UK (See our mini analysis of how the UK did in the latest FSI here). With the UK having left the EU, what opportunities are there for close ties between UK and the Netherlands – and what can the two countries learn from each other with regard to food and agricultural sustainability? We explored this and much more at this Business Forum dinner meeting – and the report below captures some key insights from the discussion.
Our speakers at this meeting were:
- Martin Koehring, Senior Manager for Sustainability, Climate Change and Natural Resources, and Head of the World Ocean Initiative at Economist Impact (part of The Economist Group); and
- Bas Harbers, agricultural advisor at the Dutch embassy in London
Jo Lewis Policy and Strategy Director at the Soil Association and Trustee of the Food Ethics Council chaired the meeting.
