Should food and agricultural businesses export to Russia?

Our Executive Director, Dan Crossley, spoke on BBC Radio 4 Farming Today about whether food and agricultural companies should be exporting to Russia at a time when Russia is invading Ukraine. In short, he doesn’t believe that they should be, as it is important to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. However companies previously exporting to Russia could perhaps be offered short-term financial support by the UK Government (or Devolved Administrations) to find alternative markets.

Dan also said:

“Now is also the time to change our food and farming systems to reduce any dependence that individual businesses have on single export markets and/ or to reduce dependency on agricultural inputs, especially if mostly coming from one region.”
