Over an early evening dinner at the Zetter Townhouse restaurant participants discussed the roles of government, business, NGOs and the family in helping people to reconnect with where their food comes from. Ideas included opening up previously ‘hidden’ aspects of the food chain, such as abattoirs; encouraging families to eat together; pairing schools and farms; and reframing the ‘food consumer’ as the ‘food citizen’.

We are very grateful to our guest speakers, Lord Donald Curry, Chair of the Better Regulations Executive; Jon Alexander, founder of the New Citizenship Project; and Richard Morris, Farm Manager for the National Trust’s Wimpole Estate for their valuable and insightful contributions.

The meeting was chaired by Helen Browning OBE, Chief Executive of the Soil Association and Chair of the Food Ethics Council.
