SOPHIE PATERSON

Communications Lead

As Communications Lead, Sophie’s role embeds good communication at the heart of our work, helping us to engage the people we work with, raise our profile, and inspire others to adopt more ethical approaches.

Prior to joining the Food Ethics Council in 2026, Sophie spent half a decade immersed in food systems work as Sustainable Food Places Coordinator with Food Plymouth, alongside ongoing communications and partnership-building work with the Open Food Network UK. She also draws on former experience with the Dartington School for Social Entrepreneurs and Routes into Languages North East.

An Arabic Studies graduate, Sophie holds a deep curiosity for ways of communicating and learning across and between cultures, recognising food as a universal connector. With music another such connector, she enjoys singing in her local community choir and playing her beloved fiddle as often as she can.
